Mat Pilates in Davie, FL: Is There a Mat Class at FS8 Davie?
Short answer, before anything else: FS8 Davie does not run a standalone mat Pilates class. Mat work is not missing from the studio — it is built into the classes rather than sold as one. Two of the three class styles move between the reformer and the mat in the same session, and the third is reformer only. If you searched for a mat class in Davie, this page tells you exactly what you would walk into and which class to book.

What mat Pilates actually is
Mat Pilates is Pilates done on the floor instead of on a machine. The resistance comes from your own body weight and from small props — a ring, a band, a ball — and the work is the same controlled, core-led movement the method is built on. Nothing supports you and nothing loads you, so what you get is precision: your own body, your own range, your own control.
That is the one real difference from the reformer, and it cuts both ways. A reformer's springs can assist a movement you are still learning and load one you already own. The mat does neither. It is not the easier version and it is not the harder one — it is the version with nothing in between.
What FS8 Davie does with mat work
Every class at the studio is a low-impact, full-body group session that blends Pilates, tone and yoga-inspired movement — on the reformer and on the mat. Where the mat sits changes with the style:
| Class | Is there mat work? |
|---|---|
| FS8 Original Build your foundation |
Yes — this is the one that moves between the reformer and the mat. A high-energy, low-impact fusion of Pilates, tone and yoga-inspired movement, built for anyone starting out or refining the fundamentals, at a tempo you control. |
| FS8 Ignite Add resistance, build power |
Yes — same Pilates foundations with athletic movement layered on top: dumbbells, heavier spring loads and bands. Plenty of it happens off the machine. |
| ReformX Pure reformer Pilates |
No — an exclusive focus on reformer work: traditional reformer Pilates with a dynamic flow, using props, technique first. |
So there is no class on the schedule called "mat Pilates" — but there is no class where the mat is absent either, except the one that is reformer by design.
Mat or reformer: how to pick
Pick by what you are after, not by how experienced you think you are. Both are beginner friendly and both are taught with the trainer next to you.
- You want core control and body awareness, and you like the idea of nothing between you and the floor — that is the mat.
- You want resistance you can dial in, either to be supported through a movement you are learning or to load one you already have — that is the reformer.
- You are not sure — which is most people — then the honest answer is that you do not have to choose. FS8 Original gives you both in one class.
Worth saying plainly: low impact is not low effort. The exercises are built to minimise the load on your joints, mat or machine, and you should still expect to need a sweat towel.
If a mat class is what you were looking for, book this one
FS8 Original. It is the class designed for starting out, it works on the mat, and it hands you the reformer in the same session without asking you to commit to it first. If after a few weeks the mat portion is the part you look forward to, say so to the trainer — they will give you the regression or the progression that makes it yours.
And if it turns out the machine is what hooks you, ReformX and the other two class styles are covered here.
