Pilates or Yoga in Davie, FL: Which One Should You Pick?

Published October 3, 2026 · FS8 Davie · Davie, Florida

Pilates and yoga get grouped together because both are low-impact and both happen on a mat, but they are built to do different things. Pilates trains controlled movement against resistance. Yoga trains held positions and breath. If you are deciding between the two in Davie, the short version is below — along with a straight answer about what FS8 Davie does and does not offer.

What is the difference between Pilates and yoga?

Pilates is built around controlled, repeated movement against resistance, with your core doing the stabilising work. On a reformer, that resistance comes from springs you can dial up or down, which is why the machine can make an exercise easier or harder for the same movement. Yoga is built around holding positions and flowing between them using your own body weight, with your breath setting the pace.

That difference in mechanics is where the difference in results comes from.

They overlap more than the table suggests — both build control, both are low-impact, and both get easier the more consistently you show up. Nobody has to pick one forever.

What FS8 Davie actually offers — and what it does not

FS8 Davie does not run a standalone yoga class. If what you want is a dedicated 60-minute yoga practice, this is not the studio for that, and it is better that you know before you book.

What the studio does is blend all three — reformer Pilates, tone and yoga-inspired movement — into one low-impact, trainer-led group class. The yoga side shows up as the mobility, flexibility and breath work layered into the session, not as a separate class on the timetable. Flexibility and mobility are two of the eight core elements the FS8 method is built on, alongside coordination, mental health, cardio, resistance, posture and balance.

There are three class styles, and they differ in emphasis rather than in format: FS8 Original for building a foundation, FS8 Ignite for adding resistance and power, and ReformX for an exclusive focus on reformer work. If you are weighing up the three, there is a longer breakdown in Reformer Pilates in Davie, FL: the three class styles.

Is a blended class still a real workout?

Yes. FS8 exercises are designed to minimise the impact on your joints, but that doesn't mean you won't need a sweat towel. The classes are low on impact and high on sweat, and every session works the whole body — some through large compound movements, others body part by body part.

Being new to either discipline is not a problem. First-timers are welcome, classes are designed to be taken at your own pace, and trainers walk you through the equipment, the exercises and the technique as you go. If you are carrying an injury, get clearance from your medical practitioner first, then tell the instructor so exercises can be modified for you.
